A white Mercedes Benz G-Wagon belonging to Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti State, was completely burnt down in Lagos on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.
Lere Olayinka, a spokesperson of the fiery Ekiti governor, Lere Olayinka, confirmed this incident to New Telegraph, saying that there were no casualties and that Governor Fayose was not in vehicle at the time of the incident.
“No casualty recorded. Cause of the fire not ascertained yet,” Mr. Olayinka said on the phone.
“There was an accident involving the governor’s vehicle on his way to the airport yesterday (Tuesday). Though he was meant to be in the vehicle, by providence, he was not there,” he said further.
“What caused the sudden fire under the vehicle is yet to be ascertained,” he added.
Mr Olayinka said the governor is grateful to God that no casualty was recorded and also thanked the people who made “spirited efforts” to put out the fire.
Ayodele Fayose is one of the leading opposition figures in Nigeria. He has been vocal in condemning corruption and anti-democratic actions of the Muhammadu Buhari regime.
Recently, a fire started in the bedroom of Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state for petroleum resources. The fire incident happened a week after the minister’s memo exposing a $26 billion oil fraud in the state-owned oil firm, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, was leaked to the public.
The fire in the minister’s house, similar to the Ekiti governors, occurred when he was not at home.
