Top 20 Richest Musicians in Nigeria (2017 Latest Update)
A few days ago, after the question about the
top 20 richest musicians in Nigeria for 2017, a guy took twitter to
express his church mind and he tweeted:
“Somebody would spend two years for pre-degree, four years for Bsc, two years for masters and someone would just sing ‘Skibo robo skibo oshey baddest’ and start making mad money.”
The statement isn’t far from the truth, as the money circulating in the Nigerian music industry is a very enviable sum. Asides the showbiz-life, the hired things for the music videos and the exposed overrated things, and all, musicians have pretty comfortable lives. And for the smart ones, the music career is just a form of leverage to acquire investments and set things up for alternative sources of income.
We cannot conclusively come to a list of the richest artistes in Nigeria but we can confidently say that this list is pretty close. Endorsement deals are being signed on a daily basis, some artistes are being dropped by their brands, some acquire and/or lose properties, some never disclose how much they’re really worth, making it difficult for a correct list to be compiled. But if you want to have an idea of Nigeria’s top richest artistes, then here you have it
20. Patoranking
The “Girlie O” crooner, who hit song has over 6 million YouTube views has been making a name for himself since he came on the music scene. Trying, as much as possible to not to fall off the surface of the music industry, Patoranking has done a commendable job, staying in the limelight. Patoranking has a net worth reported to be around N400 million.
19. Yemi Alade
She just dropped her Mama Africa album and its selling pretty fast. Yemi Alade is not just a strong vocalist but one that knows exactly what the fans want; and does all what it takes to make sure that’s exactly what she delivers. The “King of Queens” has been predicted to overthrow Tiwa Savage as the richest and most popular Nigerian female vocalist. Her net worth is said to be around N560 million.
18. Chidinma Ekile
She’s small in stature but not in financial size. The song that brought her to limelight, “Kedike” has one of the highest views on YouTube. Although rumoured to be dating another of the richest musicians in Nigeria, she remains unperturbed as she rakes in her money and she’s currently worth N580 million.
17. Duncan Mighty
The Niger Delta man has always been in the habit of talking about his wealth, houses, cars, and so on. The singers most popular songs – “Obianuju” and “Porthacourt Boy” has combined views of over 3 million on YouTube. He has strong affiliation with Niger Delta politicians and he’s worth N700 million.
16. Ice Prince
No other Ice Prince’s song has reached Oleku’s 3.1 million views on YouTube. The rapper who’s signed to Chocolate City alongside his brothers-in-rap M.I and Jesse Jagz. Ice Prince who’s one of the flashiest musicians in Nigeria has done quite fantastically since he broke into limelight and doesn’t look he’s falling off anytime soon. He is worth N820 million.
15. Phyno
Phyno is one of the few rappers in Nigeria who inserts their native dialects in their songs. One of the most intriguing things about his song is the fact that you can relate to what he’s saying, even if you don’t understand. He’s an Airtel and NairaBet ambassador and he’s worth N870 million.
14. Olamide
One very interesting thing you’ll notice where Olamide’s song is being played is that even people who don’t even understand a word would still get their groove on. The Guinness ambassador is one of the most likeable rappers in Nigeria. He is not only a genius; he has set a platform through his YBNL record label for other rappers to come to limelight. Lil’ kesh and Adekunle Gold are living examples. He’s currently worth N900 million.
13. Tiwa Savage
She’s an ambassador for various brands like Pepsi, Huggies, MTN, and she isn’t showing any sign of relenting. Her “Eminado” song has over 7 million views on YouTube and she’s currently shooting videos for her latest album – RED. The first lady of the Mavin Crew has a lot going for her, which brings her current net worth to N980 million.
12. KCee
The Triple MG star has been a lot of views on YouTube and unsurprisingly, he gave out N300,000 to a random recharge card seller at Ikeja, Lagos, a few weeks back. He keeps releasing tracks to keep in the circle of fame, his songs ‘Pull Over’ and ‘Limpopo’ are a few of his sound waves bursting songs. His current net worth stands at an impressive N985 million.
11. Jude “M.I” Abaga
M.I is arguably the most successful rapper in Africa. The CEO of Chocolate City music group is like a big brother for rappers Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince, and Koker and he has a created a reputation that would be very hard to overthrow. The Globacom ambassador is worth a reported sum of N995 million.
10. Timaya
Timaya is a lion in his own Jungle and he has to be named as one of the most successful musicians to come out of Niger-Delta. That’s to show how much his fans like and adore him. He is worth an impressive sum of N1.1 billion.
9. Iyanya
Iyanya has shown that a lot can happen in a short period of time; a time as short as three years ago when he won MTN’s project fame. He has gone ahead to become one of the biggest music stars in the Nigerian music industry. The Yudala ambassador is worth an attractive sum of N1.8 billion.
8. Banky W
Banky W is the CEO of the popular EME music record label and he’s responsible for bringing to limelight, Wizkid and Skales. The EME boss is reportedly worth a whooping sum of N2.3 billion.
7. Flavour
Flavour has been featured by almost every artiste in Nigeria. The versatile vocalist has been a relevant personality since he came into limelight. He knows exactly what it is people want to hear and he delivers just that, with the help of his guitar. He’s a Globacom ambassador, the same company that endorsed the richest musicians in Nigeria. He is said to be worth N2.5 billion.
6. Wizkid
Wizkid made a name for himself in EME records, where he released his “Holla at your boi” which shot him into the spotlight. He has since gone on to become one of the biggest stars in the Nigeria. Wizkid is an ambassador for the giant brand Pepsi and Globacom and he is reportedly worth a whooping sum of N2.8 billion
5. Davido
Davido should probably top this list if parent’s wealth was also considered. He’s an OBO
(Omo Baba Olowo) and he has done an amazing job of amassing wealth for himself. He’s the lead act in his HKN music group and he’s worth N2.9 billion.
4. Innocent “2Face” Idibia
He’s not as innocent as his name indicates, with his baby-mama dramas but he has an extremely likeable personality in the Nigerian music industry. A fact that was confirmed judging how many people showed up for his 41st birthday anniversary. 2Face has enough money to cover up for his youthful exuberance since his net worth stands at N4.5 billion.
3. D’Banj
Everyone in the Nigerian music industry knows D’Banj as a goal getter and someone who hardly takes “no” for an answer. He co-founded the popular Mo’Hits music record label with Don Jazzy, before splitting up to form his own DB Records. D’Banj is more of a businessman than a musician and he’s a World Bank ambassador for poverty eradication in Africa. He has a few businesses of his own and he’s worth a reported sum of N5 billion.
2. Don Jazzy
This would be the only person on this list who has featured in quite a number of songs but doesn’t have one track to call his own. Don Jazzy is one of the richest (if not the richest) in Africa. He has endorsement deal from brands like Samsung, Loya Milk, Konga, and so on. He is also the CEO and chairman of the popular Mavin Records. He is worth N6.5 billion.
1. P-Square
Peter and Paul Okoye are the richest twin musicians not only in Africa, but in the world. Any other richer twin is on another planet. Of the top 10 most viewed African music videos on YouTube, P-Square has five, leaving other African musicians to share the remaining five. They are not only musicians; they are shrewd businessmen who don’t allow family sentiments get in the way of their money. Booking both of them cost more than any other African artiste and they are the only Nigerian musicians who own a mansion in the billionaire neighbourhood – Banana Island.
Their net worth stands at a monstrous N15 billion.
