same year, when I also met with Phyno in Awka during his interview with Raezy on Rhythm 95.7fm. I noticed that apart from the fact that both stars hail from Anambra state and were bred in Enugu, the award-winning superstars shared other things in common, which included the dream to hit it big in the music industry without compromising their Igbo identity.
Today, I am happy both of them have become multimillionaires through singing and entertaining all of us with their Igbo style and lyrics.
Okay, now that I have risen to the position of Chief Editor for a pan-Igbo lifestyle magazine, I inspired my crew members to investigate and report on the factors responsible for the mega successes of these two Igbo sons so that you (our esteemed reader) could adopt and adapt their secrets of success to enable you rise to the level where other Igbos at home and in diaspora will recognize your talent and willingly support and make you rich like Phyno and Flavour.
Here are the factors we discovered… apply these 5 tips to your own endeavours and see yourself rise to stardom too.
- Respect:
Since, the day I knew Flavour and Phyno, they have never been reported on any media for rudeness or disrespect to any label executive, artiste management team, show promoter or even their fans – male and female alike. the last time we checked, none of the stakeholders in the music industry in Lagos and Onitsha ever complained about either Phyno or Flavour disrespecting or breaching any contract the “boys” had signed with them. - Hardwork:
Having come from the “gutters,” Phyno and Flavour have tasted the smelly waters of poverty and have come to appreciate the value of working hard and going the extra-mile, and this has paid off in that they have been able to leave the ‘gutter’ and now eat their ‘bread’ with ‘butter.’The last time we checked, both of them have cooked more hit collabos than other Igbo artistes in the Nigerian music industry including Psquare and Mr. Raw. Yes, Psquare may have been in the industry longer than Phyno and Flavour, and have also recorded more songs with foreign stars, but Phyno and Flavour dusted the twins on the list of Nigerian music collaborations which is where the Onitsha and Alaba Naira is. Hardwork made the two Enugu-bred artistes the most sought after Igbos in the Nigerian music industry today. - Knowing the Trends:
When Phyno spits his Igbo punchlines, people wonder where does he get the things he says in his verses. Some could see the link between his lyrics and the typical Onitsha and Aba slangs of the streetz. The secret to that link is that Phyno keeps himself abreast of the trends in the streetz of these commercial mega cities of Igboland. His words reflect the thoughts in the head of the typical Igbo youth you’d find on the streetz of Aba, Onitsha, Owerri, Enugu, and Awka.Flavour, on his part, never ceases to sing about exactly what Igbo girls want to hear at the moment. This is what knowing the trends could do for you. It connects you with the people on the streetz. - Appearance:
Flavour and Phyno have successfully blended Igbo cultural attitude with global civilization in their fashion sense in order to achieve the kind of attractive physical appearance that captures and holds peoples’ attention for a longer period of time. The last time Obindigbo Magazine analyzed their fashion sense, we discovered that both of them carried a certain kind of swagger that reflected both their Igbo origin perfectly blended with a serious adjustment to global fashion and style. That is the secret of the physical appeal you see in them. - Humility:
Phyno and Flavour have remained cool-headed despite their multiple hits songs. They realized early enough that nothing kills the career of a talented musician than the feelings pride and pompousity. Most low-lifers you and I knowin the music industry start to feel big after one, two or, three hit songs. But that is far from Phyno and Flavour. They have both remained humble and loyal to the alobams from wayback. Now we ask; Would it have been possible for them to rise and remain relevant in the music industry without humility? You already know what the answer is.Till next time.Peace!!!
